Hi, I'm Dominique,
I'm so happy. you're here!
I do this work because I believe the world needs compassionate, creative people who can trust themselves and one another. People who can share their hearts with the world and help make it a better place. In order to do that, I believe we need to first find a way to accept and love ourselves, and to help our kids grow up accepting and loving themselves, so they can put their energy into following their passions and expressing their own unique gifts with the world.
Before my son was born, I thought parenting would come easily, and that my child would be easy going and happy. Well, I was wrong on both accounts. I had a highly sensitive and anxious child...and before long, I felt completely overwhelmed, anxious, lost, out of shape, and totally alone and unsupported.
My son started having huge tantrums, hitting, and biting me out of frustration and I had no idea how to help either of us through it. I realized from reading a lot of parenting books, listening to parenting interviews, and taking parenting courses, that I needed to show up with a calm presence. To see, hear, and accept my son, no matter what emotions he was expressing, so he could learn emotional regulation. He needed to be seen, heard and accepted, so he could process and move through those overwhelming emotions. The problem was, I couldn't do it. I kept getting too triggered and reacting to his emotions and behavior instead of helping him through it.
Luckily, it was about this time that I started working with an Emotion Code Practitioner. After working with her for a couple of months, I started learning how to do it myself. I began noticing big emotional shifts in both of us. He could go to preschool without the severe separation anxiety, and his meltdowns became less frequent and less intense. His eczema even went away. I was able to actually start sitting with him when he got angry instead of getting triggered myself. I also started feeling more energetic, my back was hurting less, and I was choosing more healthy foods easily, and dropping excess weight. Best of all, I was able to start feeling and accepting my own emotions and feeling way more compassion for my son and myself.
Practicing Emotion Code has become a practice - my most important act of self-care. I love that when I'm feeling off, I know I can turn it around, so I don't stress about it and create a bigger problem. Same goes for my son. When I notice he's struggling, I know we can do some energy work to help him move through it. What a relief! Today, my son (age 10) and I have an amazingly close relationship, which is pretty essential since we homeschool/unschool, so we're together a lot.
It hurts my heart when I see parents and kids carrying huge emotional weights on their shoulders. I want to help parents who are doing the deep inner work of parenting. I wish to support families through helping kids grow up happy in their own skin, able to put their energy into their passions rather than in simply trying to cope.
I became a Certified Emotion Code Practitioner in 2017. I've been only working with family and friends for several years. Now, in 2022 I'm ready to help a wider audience. I look forward to working with you!
